HP LaserJet Pro M28-M31 Printers - Control Panel Features

This document is for HP LaserJet Pro M28a, M28w, M29a, M29w, M30a, M30w, and M31w printers.
The control panel includes buttons, icons, and lights to select print options and indicate printer status.

LaserJet Pro MFP M28a, M29a, and M30a

1.  Copy ID button: Starts an ID copy job (LaserJet Pro MFP M29a only).
2.  Start Copy button: Starts a copy job.
3.  Supplies light: Blinks when a supply error displays, and is steady when the toner level is very low.
4. Power button: Turns the printer on or off.
5.  Attention light: Indicates that the printer requires user attention.
6.  Cancel button: Resumes or cancels print jobs.

LaserJet Pro MFP M28w, M29w, M30w, and M31w

1. Control panel LED display: View the number of copies, copy settings, and error messages.
2.  Copy Setup button: Navigates through Number of Copies, Lighter/Darker, and Reduce/Enlarge copy options.
3.  Start Copy button: Starts a copy job.
4.  Cancel button: Resumes or cancels print jobs.
5.  Supplies light: Blinks when a supply error displays, and is steady when the toner level is very low.
6. Power button: Turns the printer on or off.
7.  Attention light: Indicates that the printer requires user attention.
8.  Wireless button and light : Turns the wireless feature on or off, configure a WPS connection, or configure a Wi-Fi Direct connection.
  • A solid light indicates that a wireless connection is established.
  • A slowly blinking light indicates that a connection is configuring.
  • A rapidly blinking light indicates an issue with the wireless connection.
9.  Copy ID button: Starts an ID copy job.
10.  Down Arrow button: Decreases the value on the display, such as the number of copies or copy size.
11.  Up Arrow button: Increases the value on the display, such as the number of copies or copy size.

HP Laserjet Pro MFP M28W - 'Encryption Credentials Expired' error (macOS, iOS) When printing from macOS or iOS, an  Encryption Credentials Expired  error message displays and you are unable to print. The error displays when the Embedded Web Server (EWS) has an expired certificate, and hence the operating system rejects the certificate. This Certification is necessary to secure connections with AirPrint and Secure Internet Printing Protocol (IPPs). To resolve the error, generate a new self-signed certificate from the EWS. Generate a new self-signed certificate from EWS Open EWS from a Windows computer, and then generate a new self-signed certificate. Use the desktop view of the EWS to generate the certificate. HP Laserjet Pro MFP M28W does not turn on The printer does not turn on or respond when you use the Power button or switch. All the lights are off, and there is no sound or movement from the printer. Identify the power supply for your printer and refer to one of the following sections that matches it. Printer with internal power supply Printer with external power supply Printer with battery power supply Internal power supply If the printer uses an internal power supply, make sure the power module, power cord, and wall outlet are working correctly.
